International Day of Zero Waste – 30 March 2026

Held on the same day every year, this important date facilitated jointly by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), aims to highlight the importance of reducing waste and promoting waste management in a sustainable way.

According to the UNEP “Every year, humanity generates between 2.1 billion and 2.3 billion tonnes of municipal solid waste. Without urgent action, the annual waste generation will hit 3.8 billion tonnes by 2050.”

The theme for 2025 was to focus attention on the global impacts of fast fashion, by reducing waste and encouraging the industry to create circular solutions.
